The second to last stop on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! in !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! was !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! in Waalwijk, The Netherlands. It’s a pretty impressive dealership with a huge showroom and a pretty eclectic inventory which included one of my favorite cars of all time.
Daimler Catfish
An Intermeccanica Indra. 127 of these were built between ‘71 and ‘74 as a joint venture between Intermeccanica and Opel. They were powered by 327, or 350 V8 Chevy, or Opel straight 6 engines. This one probably has a V8 going by the warning sticker on the back telling you to look out for hot exhaust pipes. This car was a sort of a predecessor to the Bitter CD. Opel and Intermeccanica had set up a dealership network to sell these in the U.S., but GM suddenly cut off selling parts to Intermeccanica and ordered Opel to stop selling Indras at their dealerships which proved disastrous for the Italian company. This led distributor Erich Bitter to start his own car company with cars built by Baur.
This is one I had never seen before. A 1938 Oldsmobile pickup. And it really is an Oldsmobile. It’s basically a GMC pickup of the era, but badged as an Olds for export. They were built from ‘36 until around 1940 and I don’t believe Oldsmobile sold any trucks in America.
And this is one of my dream cars. A 1963 Autobianchi Stellina one of the prettiest, and slowest, sports cars ever built. If I had an extra 30 grand sitting around, I would have bought this car in a second. This was the first Italian car with a fiberglass body. It’s unibody with a steel frame and uses Fiat 600D mechanicals which means a screaming 29 horsepower. 502 were built between ‘63 and ‘65 when it was basically replaced by the Fiat 850 Spider.
This is an Auto Union van that was sitting out front.
A very fancy Jaguar pedal car.

I have heard of it, but have never visited it, but that looks like a great collection! Guess I’ll be going there sometime after I get back.
Some of the prices are insane though (mostly due to market but still).

Yeah, they ain’t cheap, but I guess that’s the difference between buying an old car at a dealer as opposed to off a classified ad.

Amazing selection. Too many choices, but I think I’d take the Aurelia home if I could. The Indra is interesting, lots of other cars in that styling.

The interior of that dealership looks a bit like the interior of The Gallery in Brummen, which is also a very nice place to visit if you like classics...

What is that cool red ride after that red Jag E-Type convertible?

An Aurelia is always a good choice. If I couldn’t have the Stellina, I’d probably take one of the Peugeots.

That Giardiniera is fantastic. The red car is a Riley Kestrel. Beautiful little car.

I’ve always loved that odd shade of green on the Giardiniera - so 60s/70s :P
Now that you mention it, I THINK I have heard of the Kestrel before, but had completely forgot about it!

Yeah, I love that pea green from that era. I had a Honda Z600 that color once.
Riley put the Kestrel name on a lot of cars, actually, up until the 60's, This one is a 1934 “Light Saloon.” This was the smallest one with a 4 cylinder which I think made like 9 horsepower, or something. You could get a bigger car with a six, but the little ones are really handsome. This is the profile.

For that kind of money I’d get a regular 964. And a 993. And a Big Healey. And a...
That first blue Healey was sold recently. The second one you’re showing is going for 64K euros. I’m sure that first one was cheaper though. The winning Healey for me was that white one though.

Which blue one sold? The 3000 or the 100?
The white 3000 would be nice, but you may or may not know I have a thing for blue vehicles.
Jobjoris
> CaptDale - is secretly British
10/25/2017 at 11:54 | 0 |
Both are 3000s. The first (non metallic blue) is a MkI and the second (lighter metallic blue) you’re showing is a MkIII. That MkIII was mint and there - I feel/think to remember - more expensive.
As the owner of 3 blue vehicles I might not know you have such a thing but I do understand it.

10/25/2017 at 12:17 | 1 |
Ah ok, the first one the grille badge looked like it said 100 on it, but it overall looked a little off for a 100, but you never know.
I prefer the darker blue MkIII
Jobjoris
> CaptDale - is secretly British
10/25/2017 at 12:37 | 1 |
The 100/6 and 3000 MkI barely differ. Just 300cc of capacity as far as I know. I do think there’s a 100 badge in the grille but I just checked it’s registration and that clearly states 3000MkI . First registration is 1960 so that should be another hint as the 100/6 was till mid 1959.
Have you ever driven one? They’re like big heavy trucks hahaha!

Yeah I know there are just little differences between the 3000 and the 100-6, but some reason I have to have a BN6 100-6. I just like them more.
No, I have not had the chance to drive one yet.

I was going to say, that creep from the DAF Museum was lurking around again. Must have been tailing us. He was even on the phone talking to his superiors, no doubt.
I love looking at a big Healey. That museum must be great. Absolutely going there next time. How far away is it?
Jobjoris

The Healey museum is about as far as the Louwman. Not nearby it but as far. Near Utrecht. Which is a city you’ll need to see anyway.
Jonee

Did we drive through Utrecht, or is it the other direction? There used to be an art supply store chain here called Utrecht.
Jobjoris
> Jonee
10/27/2017 at 05:15 | 1 |
Nope, we went North-West, Utrecht is North-North-Easy from Breda. Could one buy artsy Bitterballs at Utrecht’s?
Jonee
> Jobjoris
10/28/2017 at 23:10 | 1 |
No Bitterballs. I wish. Just paint and charcoal pencils and things like that. Since I went to art school, I had to shop there on occasion, but at the time, I didn’t know what Utrecht was.
Apparently, it was originally called that because that’s where the linens in their canvases came from. A lot of the stores have closed, so they really should strongly consider the Bitterballs thing.

Jonee

Yeah, I guess it is. Mostly gold. I didn’t realize we were going that vintage. I think of vintage as, like, the 1970's, not the 1770's.
